Derrick Evans Gilbert

Derrick Evans Gilbert, 47 passed away on August 31, 2017 from medical complications of Kidney Cell Carcinoma and pneumonia.  He is survived by his wife Shannon Strong Gilbert of Spanish Fork, Utah, Parents Dell and Jolene Gilbert of St George, Utah, sons Evan and Aiden Gilbert of  Pueblo Colorado, siblings Michael and Annette Gilbert of Beech Island South Carolina, Stacey, and Amy Beth of St. George, Utah and the beautiful family of Shannon Strong Gilbert, 22 nieces and nephews and 1 great-niece.

Derrick, an awesome son, a beloved brother, husband, father, “Crazy” uncle and friend, will be dearly missed but is now resting in peace…Gone, But Not Forgotten.

Derrick had a passion for the culinary arts and enjoyed teaching his family and friends his cooking techniques.  He loved to read and entertain people with his extensive knowledge of “little known facts and trivia”.  He was an artist, author and an amazing cake, fruit and appetizer decorator.  His artistic ability was displayed in everything he did.

He was loved by everyone who knew him because of his fin wit, knowledge of people, places, things and the strange facts that no one could know but him.  He had a select set of friends from his early years that he treasured to this last day.

He has returned to his Father in Heaven to be reunited with his eldest son Bryant Joseph Gilbert.

There will be an hour long Memorial Service with a light luncheon held in his honor as we “Celebrate his Life, Not Mourn his Death” on Saturday September 23rd @11 am in the Washington 1st Ward Chapel located at 82 North Main, Washington , Utah.  Dell E. Gilbert can be contacted at (435) 817-5285.

Arrangements are in the care of Hughes Mortuary.  (435)674-5000.  Please visit www.hughesmortuary.com to leave condolences for the family.
