Mariam Joy Humphries Iverson, beloved wife of Lloyd (“Pete”) Iverson, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away in her home on Monday, October 29, 2018, at the age of 90. Her passing has brought our family great sadness as she will be missed tremendously. We are comforted in the knowledge that she is at peace.
Mariam is best remembered as a gentle, kind and spiritual soul, who loved her husband and family deeply. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family. Mariam was her husband’s “dearie” and best friend and her children’s source of unconditional love and support. Mariam was sealed in marriage to her sweetheart and eternal companion in the Logan Temple on December 27, 1950. Mariam and Pete enjoyed 68 happy years of married life together. Their time was filled with adventures, leaving many happy and fond memories in their wake. Mariam truly lived a richly abundant and joyful life.
Mariam loved people, especially children. She graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Elementary Education, and worked as a respected and adored educator of kindergarten children for many years. Mariam loved both teaching and the children whom she taught. She was a master teacher and received several awards as an educator, including “Teacher of the Year” for the State of Utah.
Mariam was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served devotedly and conscientiously in numerous ward and stake positions. Mariam truly lived her religion, and was a great example to those around her. She and her husband served a successful Church Service Mission at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mariam’s favorite scripture was: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
Mariam is survived by her husband, “Pete,” Iverson, her children, Shelley Stevens, Roger, Kristine (Emil) Knudsen, Steven, and Mary (Mark) Dennison, as well as 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
