Our kind, sweet mother passed away on September 18 in Hurricane, Utah. She was born July 14, 1935 to Roy Wood Wightman and Grace Roseltha Adams in Payson, Utah. She grew up in Payson and lived in a home built by her Great-Grandfather, Joseph Wightman. She was named Abbie after her paternal grandmother, Abbie Wood .
She was an intelligent, active woman who loved reading and studying about many subjects. She had to drop out of High School when she married Charles Henry Cook Wyler December 23, 1950. They were only teenagers but beat the odds and were married for 45 years until Charles died in 1996. She loved children and spent most of her life raising her own 13. Abbie Kay was keenly aware of nutrition and did her best to provide healthy food for her growing family. She always was careful to be an example of good grooming and proper behavior. As a member of the silent generation, she was a very private person and did not usually let her children know about any struggles she was facing. The philosophy she taught and lived by was: The secret of life is not doing what you like to do but learning to like what has to be done.
She moved with her family to the Colorado City / Hildale area in about 1993. She became a much loved and respected member of her community. Her large posterity wishes to thank the Richter family, especially Selma, for the loving care provided in the last years of her life.
Abbie Kay is survived by her sister, Joy James, her children, Pam. Becky, Rick, Julie, Robert, John, Wally, Wayland, Valeen, Alanea, Chris, C.H., Suzie and their spouses. Abbie Kay had numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her brother, Dell Wightman.
Her viewing will be held Friday September 26 at the Hughes Mortuary in St George, Utah from 4-6pm. Interment will be in the Isaac Carling Memorial Park on September 28, 2025. A Celebration of life will follow on October 4th for friends and family at the Peacan Valley Complex in Hurricane Utah, from noon on.
