Listen to Obituary

Brenda Lynne Schmidt Kenworthy, 62, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026 surrounded by loving family and friends. She struggled for many, many years with POTS, and was recently diagnosed with ALS.

She was born on Easter Sunday, March 29, 1964. Her mother and father were Mary Jean "Jeannie" Bevard Schmidt Reeves and Delmar Jacob Schmidt. She was raised in Commerce and Whittier CA, until her family moved to Utah in 1974. They lived in Hurricane and St George. She attended Hurricane Elementary, East Elementary, Woodward, Dixie Junior High, Dixie High School and Dixie College. She went back to California to visit cousins and met David Clayton, They married and moved back to Southern CA. Together they had 2 sons, Reid Thomas Clayton and Adam Douglas Clayton. They divorced after 7 years. Brenda stayed in CA and raised her boys.

In 2005 she and Reid moved to St George. She went to work for Hinton Burdick Accounting. She truly enjoyed that job and her coworkers. In 2006, with a reminder from her sister about how much she loved being behind the scenes at college plays, she went to St George Musical Theatre and volunteered her time. Already knowing Don & Dawna Kenworthy, it made for a wonderful reunion. And Brenda was good with make-up, She was doing the makeup on the Beast in 'Beauty and the Beast'. Ken Kenworthy was the fighting beast in that play. She did his makeup as well. They started talking and soon realized there was an attraction. A few weeks later they started dating and were married on Feb 3, 2007 at the SGMT with the 'Beast Rose'. At that time, she lovingly inherited Ken's sons, Derik and Kyle. Ken and Brenda were in the Lieto Choir and sang in the 'Messiah' every Christmas. Brenda had a beautiful alto voice.

Brenda has been a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many positions, including Relief Society Pres, Ward and Stake Missionary, Gospel Doctrine Teacher and loved teaching Family Search. Genealogy became a passion for her. Another passion became mountain biking. They bought a couple of bikes (no, not e-bikes. She says those are cheaters). They took many bike rides around the area.

Then in 2020 they bought a little trailer and began to travel. They visited most of the church history sites, and Nauvoo is still their favorite. With Newell Knight being a great grandfather, that was another favorite. They started their own 'Seeking Moroni' tour. They were able to visit and attend between 30-40 temples from then to now.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ken, their 4 boys, her older brother Larry (Denna) Schmidt, her beloved sister, Susan (Jerry) Roam and her younger half brother Russ (Becky) Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents.
