Carol Dale Chatelain Clifford

February 3, 1943 — October 3, 2023

Saint George, UT

Carol Dale Chatelain Clifford passed away on the afternoon of October 3rd, 2023 in St. George, Utah after a long struggle with dementia.

Carol was born on February 3rd, 1943 to Lloyd Dale Chatelain and Elda Cooper Chatelain. She was the older sister to two brothers, Paul Chatelain, who passed away as an infant, and Allen Chatelain. She was born and raised in Syracuse, Utah, and raised her family with her husband in Placentia, California.

Carol attended Davis High School in Kayesville, Utah and graduated in the class of 1961. She enjoyed spending time with friends and participating in 4H and other extracurricular programs. One of her most cherished high school memories was traveling across the country to visit church history sites with her friends, a trip she took again years later with her beloved husband.

In her junior year of high school, Carol began to date her lifelong friend, Lynn Paul Clifford. The two had known one another since first grade and grew up just a few houses away from each other. Carol and Lynn were married and sealed to each other for time and all eternity on April 26, 1962 in the Logan, Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At the time of her passing, Lynn and Carol had been married 61 years. They are, and always will be, sweethearts.

Among her greatest accomplishments in life was the family she created. Carol is the proud mother of Lynn “Paul” (Jeanette) Clifford Jr., Darrin (Pamela) Clifford, Craig (Amber) Clifford, and Sharol (Lamar) Taylor. Carol dedicated her life to caring for her family. She spent hours worrying about and providing for the needs of her beloved four children. Carol was also a wonderful grandma to eight granddaughters, six grandsons, five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Carol loved to make beautiful things for the people she loved. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her at her sewing machine, making beautiful clothes, needle point canvases, and quilts. Carol built a beautiful community of friends and loved ones as she participated in Daughters of Utah Pioneer meetings and worked in her church community. Her friends meant the world to her and were an important part of her life. Carol loved to share laughter with the people she loved and never left you alone in a chuckle.

As a homemaker, Carol created a beautiful home where everyone felt loved and welcomed. Her home was a place filled with her warmth, bright smile, and laughter. She guided her children through school, sports, and scouts, teaching them and nurturing them as they learned and grew. Her children and grandchildren will always remember their grandparents’ home as a place of play and the warm embrace of their sweet grandmother.

Carol was an elegant woman whose sweet spirit and soft-spoken words have inspired the people she loved. Her loving words and creative spirit will be missed by those who loved her.

Carol is survived by her husband, Lynn Paul Clifford, her four children, Lynn “Paul” (Jeanette) Clifford Jr., Darrin (Pamela) Clifford, Craig (Amber) Clifford, and Sharol (Lamar) Taylor, her grandchildren, Tiffany Clifford, Jessica Clifford, Justin Clifford, Karlie (Blake) Anderson, Marc McCorkle Jr., Amanda (Richard) Sant, Haley (Graham) Blakeney, Kaitlyn (Jimmy) Parrott, Jason (Alyssa) Clifford, Nicholas Taylor, Adam Clifford, Ryan Clifford, Madison Taylor, and Tara Clifford, and her great-grandchildren, Logan Anderson, Colton Anderson, Richard Lucas Sant, Weston Anderson, Emma Blakeney, and Beckham Paul Clifford.

A public viewing will be held in Carol’s honor at 1285 S. 2500 W. in Syracuse, Utah at 10 AM on October 6, 2023 with a funeral service immediately to follow. She will be laid to rest in the Syracuse City Cemetery among many of her relatives.
