Cathy Joan Andrews

St George, Ut. - Cathy J. Andrews, passed away on Thursday, May 22 nd . She was born in Cleveland Ohio on December 8, 1950, to Joseph and Blanche Bowes. She moved to Southern California with her family in 1962 at the age of 12. 

She met her husband Stephen, of 55 years while attending Fullerton Junior College, she was in a park playing acoustic guitar and for him, it was love at first sight. They married on January 24th, 1970 at a small chapel in Long Beach, California. 

Cathy worked as a Senior Instructional Aide, in Special Education for the Anaheim Union High School District for 23 years, winning an award for her work with a student on the Autism Spectrum to develop the skills to communicate with his family verbally.

After retirement, she and her husband moved to St George, UT. to care for her father Joseph, shortly after the death of her Mother. 

Cathy took French and Russian language in High School, a brave decision at the height of the cold war. She was also lead guitarist for an all girl rock band, playing gigs at local colleges and elsewhere, primarily playing on her fender electric guitar. She was also proficient at playing the 12 string acoustic guitar and banjo.

Cathy was an avid reader- no book was too long for her. No-one knew trivia like she did- she was an unrealized Jeopardy champion. She enjoyed watching and going to Nascar races. She and her husband also had great fun taking mini vacation’s to Mesquite, Nevada- they jokingly referred to themselves as the “Low Rollers”.

Cathy is survived by her husband Stephen, of St George, Utah; her daughter Wendy (married to Eugene Cullen of Lancaster, Pa) ; her granddaughters Madison and Catlin, also in Lancaster, Pa, as well as her bonus grandchildren Jacqui Montoya of Hayes, Virginia, and Eugene Jr, residing in Quarryville, Pa, and great grandson, Kade, also of Quarryville.

Funeral services are Wednesday, May 28 at 1:00 pm, at Solomon's Porch Foursquare. Fellowship at 1495 S. Black Ridge Drive (a240), St George, UT 84770. Friends may call at that time and location.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 Street, St George, UT-- (435) 674-5000. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Solomon's Porch and Food Pantry, at 1495 S. Black Drive- a240, St George, UT 84770.
