Charles Callis Summerhays

Charles Callis Summerhays, 87, resident of Washington City, Utah lovingly returned home to his Heavenly Father on May 10, 2020 in St. George, Utah.  Born June 30,1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Paul Summerhays and Grace Callis.  

After returning from service in the Korean War, he attended school at Brigham Young University where he met his future bride Utahna Sorensen. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on August 26, 1955.  He is the father of six children, grandfather of 31 and great grandfather of 49. 

After a distinguished career in business, Charles and his wife served 5 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Nauvoo, Illinois Temple Mission (2); Apia, Samoa where they served a Humanitarian Mission and directed the Open House and dedication of the Apia, Samoa Temple; and the Church Family History Center in St. George, Utah.  They also served as Ordinance Workers in the Los Angeles and St. George Temples.  

He is proceeded in death by his parents.  He is survived by Utahna, his loving wife of 64 years, his children Kenneth Summerhays (Debbie) Utah; Ann (Rick) Hecht, California; Michael Summerhays (Margaret) Texas; Karen (Dale) Ellsworth, Utah; Shauna (Steve) VanDerHeyden, Utah; Lisa (Vincent) Ibarra, Oregon, Virginia (Rex) Butler, Arizona, and his 31 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and his two sisters Laura Stay and Julia Baker. His  love for the Savior, family, and providing service to others were the priority and joy of his life.

Due to Covid-19, a private family memorial will be held.  Interment will be at the Washington City Cemetery.
