Cleone Davenport

November 26, 1936 — September 17, 2018

Cleone Davenport

Cleone Wallis Davenport, age, 81, passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, in St. George Utah.  She was born November 26, 1936, in St. George Utah to Archibald Douglas and Beatrice Larson Wallis.  She married Erwin Orlo Davenport on September 5, 1956 and their sealing was performed in the St. George LDS Temple.  This year would have been their 62nd anniversary.

Cleone was an active member in her community; in her youth, she participated in 4-H, ballet, softball, and Dixie College basketball.  Later in life, she worked at East Elementary, helping children read.  She had a gift for working with children.   She also loved volunteering at the DUP museum and sharing her knowledge of St. George history. In her free time, she spent many hours making local history scrap books. Cleone was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving in many different callings.

She had a love for life and enjoyed being outdoors. She especially loved spending time with her husband watching the Utah Jazz or riding on the back of his four-wheeler.  He affectionately called her “Clunk.”  Everyone who knew Cleone will remember her adventurous spirit, creativity, sense of humor, integrity, patience, and kindness.

Family was very important to Cleone.  There was always time for her grandchildren and attending their performances.   Her free time was always spent with family.  She was the best mom anyone could ever ask for.

Cleone joins her eternal companion, Erwin Orlo Davenport of St. George, Utah, who preceded her in death May 24th this year.  She leaves behind a sister, Donna Rae Jolley, her children: Douglas Erwin (Karlee) Davenport, Durell Jay (Jill) Davenport, Gina (Doug) Prisbrey, Diane (Mark) Wonnacott, and Cheryl (Donald) Staheli; 29 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ernest Bruce Wallis, and grandson Jace Christoffersen Davenport.

The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to Edith Porter R.N. and entire team of professionals at Dixie Home Rehab & Hospice, for the amazing care given to Cleone.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS Church located at 550 East 700 South, 84770.  Visitations will be held Friday evening September 28th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the same location.  Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hughes Mortuary.  Compassionate Service by the LDS 7th Ward.
