"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Debra “Debby” Ann Herrud Hamblin age 72 on June 21, 2025, at her home in St. George, Utah. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Debby lived a life marked by kindness, joy, and an unwavering love for her family.
Debby was born on September 2, 1952, in Deadwood, South Dakota, to George and Geralene Herrud. The oldest of four siblings, she spent her early years in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota before settling in Casper, Wyoming, where she graduated from Natrona County High School in 1970. After a time at Casper College. She moved to Colorado Springs for a couple of years before she joined her family in Rawlins, Wyoming, where she worked at Rawlins National Bank and where she met the love of her life.
In 1975, Debby met Kenneth Hamblin at his gas station, “Ken’s Texaco,” and their lives were forever changed. They married in Rawlins on July 31, 1976, and welcomed their daughter, Jamie Ann, in 1977. The family moved to St. George, Utah, in 1978, where their son, Bryce Paul, was born in 1980. Debby’s warmth and work ethic soon made her a familiar face at local banks, including Heritage Savings and Loan, which later became United Savings, Washington Mutual, and Chase Bank. She later joined Town & Country Bank, eventually retiring in 2017. Her coworkers and customers remember her for her kindness, dependability, and genuine care.
Debby was a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She found joy in music, reading, dogs, sunflowers and crocheting, and she proudly supported the Denver Broncos, especially her favorite player, Ed McCaffrey—famously bringing a sign reading “Eddie for President” to games. She and Ken shared a love for travel, attending Vietnam Vet reunions across the country, and creating lasting friendships along the way.
But Debby's greatest joy was always her family. She was a devoted mother who loved to share updates about her children and found endless pride in her grandchildren. She rarely missed a concert, game, or school event, and after her grandchildren moved in with her in 2014, she became a daily source of love, encouragement, and steady presence in their lives. Her family always came first, and her support never wavered.
Debby is survived by her loving husband, Ken Hamblin; her children, Jamie (Hamblin) Parry and Bryce Hamblin, both of St. George; her grandchildren, Dylan Parry of Salt Lake City, Chloe Parry and Colton Parry of St. George, and bonus granddaughter Whitni Parry & her husband Shawn Forsyth of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by her brother Jim (Debbie) Herrud of Eagle, Idaho; sister Lori (Scott) Morrow of Riverton, Wyoming; sister-in-law Eileen (Frank) Bailey of Henderson, Nevada; and brother-in-law Steve Hamblin of Albuquerque, New Mexico—both of whom she loved like siblings. She also leaves behind four nieces, three nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews who adored her.
Debby was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gerry Herrud; her beloved brother, Jeff Herrud; and her second parents in every way, Roscoe and Cecile Hamblin.
Debby’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and compassion. Her life was a gift to all who knew her, and her presence will be deeply missed but forever felt in the lives she touched.
