Dennis Grant Barnes passed away on October 9, 2026, leaving behind a loving family, countless cherished memories, and a legacy of hard work, generosity, and unconditional love.
Dennis was born on February 4, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from Cedar City High School, he followed in his father’s footsteps and began an apprenticeship as a pipefitter. He became a proud member of Local 140, beginning a lifelong career marked by dedication and hard work.
In 1967, Dennis met the love of his life, Elaine Gale Barnes. They were married later that year and were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 11, 1974. They shared nearly 59 wonderful years together. Their love was deep and enduring, and they were blessed to experience so much of life side by side, including traveling across all 50 states and creating a lifetime of memories together.
Dennis was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and enjoyed building things alongside the people closest to him. He worked with his brother in their construction business, owned an RV park in Churchwells, and started a garbage business with his son. Some of his greatest joys came from working alongside his children and creating not only successful businesses but also lasting memories and strong family bonds.
Those who knew Dennis will remember his wonderful sense of humor, his lovable stubbornness, and, above all, his enormous heart. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. He had a special way of finding the good in everyone, and his kindness, generosity, and genuine love for others touched countless lives. He was liked by many, loved by so many more, and will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Although Dennis worked hard throughout his life, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved fishing, traveling with Elaine, and, most of all, spending time with his family. Visits from his grandchildren brought him tremendous happiness, and those moments together will forever be treasured.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Gale Barnes; his daughters, Julie Denise (Vlad) Volny and Cindy Lee (Joel) Roberts; and his son, Kevin Grant (Sarah) Barnes. He is also survived by his three brothers, one sister, 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant Edwin Barnes and Gwenth Marie Holt; his brother, Brent Edwin Barnes; and his grandsons, Brady Monson and Ethan Roberts.
Dennis leaves behind a legacy defined not only by his hard work and accomplishments but also by the love he gave so freely, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched. His family will carry his memory forward through the lessons he taught, the stories they tell, and the love that will forever connect them.
He was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
