Dennis Lawrence Slater, age 87, passed away June 9, 2026. He was born July 16, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Ellis Slater and Mildred Hodson of Marriott, Utah.

Dennis grew up in Marriott Utah and learned hard work being raised on a farm. He had three brothers-Frank, Bruce and Jim. Dennis went to Weber High School where he played football and wrestled. He met his lifetime sweetheart, Carolynn Craner. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple soon after high school on November 29, 1956.

They had four children: Dale (Jayne), Lori (Byron), Gary, Gordon (Charmaine). Gary passed away in infancy. They also have a Navajo daughter, Verna Tsosie. He had many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren that he adored.
Dennis was a hard working, fun-loving, kind man. He had a fun, contagious laugh and frequently got people laughing. He loved everyone and made anyone he met feel like family. He worked and loved hard. He set a great example for his family. He loved the gospel and enjoyed working in the baptistry and other areas of the St. George Temple.

He loved his family and wanted them around as often as possible. Dennis spent most of his working life at Bailey's Moving and Storage, where he started out in sales, moved to operations, and eventually became CEO. Many employees loved working for him. He was able to retire early where he spent a lot of time golfing, riding horses, watching football, and spending time with family or working in the temple. He also loved going to Costco.
A year or so after Carolynn passed away, Dennis met and married Sally Dickerson.

They resided in St. George and Layton, Utah. Dennis suffered from Alzheimer's the last few years of his life and was in memory care at Ovation in Washington, Utah before being taken into the home of his daughter. Many of the staff there expressed sadness at his leaving because they enjoyed his fun personality. He still made people laugh.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolynn, two sons-Dale and Gary, two of his brothers Bruce and Jim, sisters-in-law Terri Slater and Phyllis Slater, and brother-in-law Jim Craner.

Gratitude to all those who took such good care of him both in memory care and at home.
