Don was born to Harry Vernon Huston and Mildred Pearl McCune Huston on April 19, 1934 at Vandergrift, PA.
He attended public schools mostly in the Pittsburgh area. Upon high school graduation in 1952, Don, his mother and sister Lynne moved to Phoenix, AZ. January 20, 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. It was here that he met Dorothy Lewis at a Service Club dance. After dating her for a year, they were married November 23, l956. Scot was born in Mountain Home, Idaho. In October 1958 Dorothy and Don were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple; and shortly after, Kelli was born at the Mountain Home Air Force Base. Don was discharged from the Air Force 19th November, 1958. The small family then moved to Phoenix, AZ, where Don worked at Sperry Phoenix Company. Cary, Tim and Patrick (the rest of the family) were born in Phoenix.
Because of the Cuban crisis, Don joined the Air Force Reserve 14 November 1961 to 8 March 1965.
In August of 1966, the family moved to Boise, ID, and built a home in Meridian. While here, Don worked 20 years at United Airlines and then 11 years for the Idaho Transportation Department.
Don graduated from Boise State College in 1972 and served in the United States Naval Reserve 9 March 1965 to 31 December 1989, retiring on his birthday 19 April 1994.
Dorothy and Don both retired from their Idaho State jobs on 29 May 1998. They lived in a 5th wheel before building new homes in New Meadows, ID (2000), Gold Canyon, AZ (2001), St. George, UT (2004), Florence, AZ (2014) and Santa Clara, UT (2017).
Don’s hobbies were Studebaker cars (he had 5 of them) and the music of the 30s, 40s and early 50s. He participated with Dorothy in state and national senior athletic competitions--22 years in the St. George Huntsman World Senior Games. Don enjoyed his many LDS ward and stake clerk positions and served four stake missions.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Millie and a half-sister Dr. Pamela Dee Huston. He is survived by Dorothy Jean Lewis Huston (spouse) children; Vernon Scot Huston, Kelli Lee Huston Russell (Wesley Russell) Cary Todd Huston (Julee Ward Huston) Timothy Brian Huston (Staci Huston) Patrick Lewis Huston (Tammie Huston) Lynne Huston Godich (sister) and 68 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 10th at 11:00 AM at the Committal Shelter, Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South, St. George, UT (435)674-5000.
