Eliza Hattie Barlow Jessop

Eliza Hattie Barlow was born the 11th child of 12 children; 6 boys and 6 girls. She was the baby girl; named after her Great Grandmother Eliza Hattie Strong. Hattie was born August 17, 1988 in St. George, Utah to Steven Balmforth and Viginia Kaylene Darger Barlow. She had just passed her 33rd birthday.

She married Samuel Woodruff Jessop on June 26, 2016 in Toquerville, Utah. They have two beautiful children; Brexton Zolton; 7 years and Addelyn Zailee; 3 years.

Hattie leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving spouse and children, parents, all her siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Growing up in “Short Creek” with a large family of brothers and sisters, gave her a natural knack with children. Hattie knew how to make everything exciting… even work! She most importantly, knew how to make everyone feel included and loved. She would sing and do crafts with the children and all her nephews and nieces flocked to their “Aunt Hat”. She lived in Hildale, Utah until she was 7 and then moved to Colorado City, Arizona, and then later to St. George, Utah.

She was always very savvy with electronics. She could understand computer programming and get around electronic “barriers”. She had an uncanny understanding with computers, phones, and numbers. Many people would bring their electronics to her to fix or make them run smoother.

She went to various home school programs all her school years, including around the table with her big sister, and a couple years in Jeffs Academy. She had beautiful handwriting. She was self-motivated and determined to get her education, and thus obtained her GED diploma for High School, and then to college to become a Medical Decoder for Intermountain Healthcare; which she could do from home and still be with her children.

Her children were her love and joy. She was careful to teach them manners, and to be cautious of the influences around them. She loved to sing to them and help them excel. She searched around for the best teachers for Brexton who though only 7, tested at a 6th grade level in many areas. Her famous words were, “We don’t want to be dysfunctional!” This was almost always said as she rolled her eyes.

She loved nature walks, overnight trips with the nieces and nephews, dancing around and singing, fishing and camping, and was a very good photographer. She enjoyed sports, especially the Dodgers and Cardinals. Fall was her favorite season. She would talk of everything she wanted to do in the fall. She spread her zest for life to everyone around her. Many people looked to her for encouragement.

There will be a viewing for Hattie at Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South in St. George, Utah on Thursday evening August 26, 2021 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a small memorial and viewing on Friday; August 27, 2021 From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The interment will be at the Isaac Carling Memorial Park in Colorado City, Arizona directly after the service.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the love and support of all Hattie’s many friends and relatives.
