Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Miller Barney, 72, passed away surrounded by family on June 21st, 2024 after fighting a valiant battle against cancer. Liz was born October 13, 1951 in Panguitch, Utah to Allen and Joann Miller.
Liz spent her childhood living the “small town life” in Panguitch, Utah with her two sisters and three brothers. Liz’s life changed when she met her sweetheart, Bruce, in high school. From the moment they met, they were inseparable. While Bruce served a mission in Italy, she attended cosmetology school and wrote to him every single day. When Bruce returned home from his mission, he and Liz were married on October 9th, 1971, in the St. George, Utah temple. They could always be found together at the city ball fields, church activities, or working evenings together for Staheli Catering.
After Bruce’s death, Liz started serving meals to the elementary kids in the Washington County school district. Liz loved her time as a “lunch lady” and worked hard to make sure the kids were taken care of. For over 20 years, Liz loved and fed hundreds of children every day. After she retired, she continued to feed and serve the people in her community. Liz was known for her amazing homemade bread and rolls and often baked dozens of them every week to give away to others.
While her family will miss her, they are happy that she is reunited with her eternal companion and know that their reunion was so sweet.
Liz was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Bruce, her parents Allen and Joann Miller, and her grandson, Riley Scott. Liz is survived by her children Derek and Melissa Barney (Hurricane, Utah), Mary Jo and Ben Scott (Tippecanoe, Indiana), Clint and Jenny Barney (Washington, Utah), Lisa and David Judd (Sandy, Utah), Darcee and CJ Somerville (Okeechobee, Florida), and McKayle and Mitch Owens (Lake Havasu City, Arizona). She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
