Ellen Irene Lloyd

Ellen Irene Holohan Lloyd, 60, passed away peacefully at her home in St. George, Utah on December 21, 2017. Her family was by her side when her six-year battle with cancer ended. Ellen was born in Phoenix, AZ on January 27, 1957 to the late William and Kathryn (Dewey) Holohan. Ellen was a proud graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in History. In September 1983, she married Russ “Larry” Lloyd, and they began their 34 years of adventures throughout the Southwest.

She is survived by her husband Russ; her daughter Mallory (Jake) Coffman; grandson Killian Coffman; brothers Mark (Tracy) Holohan, Brian Holohan; sister Lori Holohan; niece Kelly (Ross) Nudelman; grandnieces Claire and Kaylee; and nephews Brody and Kyle Holohan.

Throughout Ellen’s 30-year-record of exemplary work with for-profit and nonprofit companies, she met and influenced countless lives. As a long time Executive in the cable business, she was an advocate and pioneer for the industry. She volunteered for many organizations, served on numerous boards, and received professional recognition for her accomplishments in marketing, business growth, and innovation. In more recent years, her passions steered her towards grant writing. She helped secure millions of dollars to assist local non-profits with raising money to directly impact their communities.

Her fundamental joy in nurturing (whether to kids, animals, her community, or her garden) was evident to all who knew her. In Colorado, she and Russ enjoyed a decade of ranching – raising cattle, goats, cats, and dogs – and competitively showing horses. Once semi-retired in Utah, she loved to hike, read, walk her dog Nola, play with her grandson, and garden. In her own words, “chocolate and books, in that order, are impossible for me to give up.” Her down to earth charm and her ability to make people feel genuinely special were true gifts.

Ellen wished to be remembered first as a loving mother, wife, friend, sister, and daughter. And secondly, as someone who did not avoid the storms in life, but learned to dance in the rain. Anyone who knew her would agree that she exemplified all of these traits and more.

Per her wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. The family will provide forthcoming details for Celebrations of Life in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and the Pittsburgh area in 2018.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to one of Ellen’s most dear nonprofits, Candelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada:  www.candlelightersnv.org;  8990 Spanish Ridge Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89148; 702-737-1919.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Intermountain Home Care & Hospice for their kindness and support in Ellen’s final months.
