George Wayne Hewitt

George Wayne Hewitt age 82 passed away on July 6, 2020 due to Covid 19.

He was born September 10,1937 in Bogalusa, LA to Horace George Hewitt and Violet Pollock.  He married Tami Burton in 1961 and they were the parents of three sons.   They were later Divorced.   In February of 2013 He married Thayes Ann Fautin of  Spanish Fork.  They were sealed in the St George Temple on May 30, 2019.

George was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved serving in the Gospel.   He served at the Church Employment Center in St George and in the LDS Addiction recovery program in years past.   He had served as choir director, and ward chorister.  He also served as Webelos Leader.   He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and served many people around him.   He loved music , the outdoors,  fishing, animals,  photography and family History. One of George’s biggest passions was travel.  He loved Italy, and went there six times.  He traveled with tours and took his students  on many tours.  He and Thayes loved traveling together, and had many great trips in their marriage.   He never stopped seeking new interests and ideas and talents.    He also ran in several marathons. 

George was a teacher, teaching at the high school level in Granite School district where he taught business communication, coached Debate and drama.   He loved to sing, and performed in musicals and vocal performances in his youth, and also in his later years.  

George is survived by his spouse  Thayes Hewitt in Diamond Valley,  three sons,  Jeff Hewitt, Herriman, Ut.  Craig Hewitt (April) and Kyle Hewitt of Hotchkiss Colorado.   Step children are Heather (Allen) Huntsman of Spanish Fork,  Randy (Cari) Goyne, Medford Oregon,  Locke (Amanda) Ludlow St George. Ana Stringham of St George   Hallie (Nick) Lambertson of Delta, Utah.    Six grandchildren four great grandchildren and many other very loved extended grandchildren and great grands.   One sister Betty Jo Spear of Spanish Fork.   He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Kinta Maguire.

We want to express our appreciation to our wonderful friends and ward members and especially to the nurses, doctors, aides, and healthcare employees that make their sacrifices to care for us in this time. 

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic there will be a family prayer at the Hughes Mortuary  1037 East 700 South on Friday at 11 a.m.,  but no public gathering is encouraged.    Graveside Service will be at Tonaquint Cemetery for family and close friends at 12 noon.   Please be understanding, this is such a difficult time, and we do not want to expose anyone else to this deadly virus.  If you choose to attend, please be aware that members of the family have been ill.  All will be asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.   In lieu of flowers, we encourage everyone to donate to a favorite charity to help conquer Covid 19.

A Zoom meeting will be available for anyone that wants to join in by virtual media. Please contact family members to get details. 

Hopefully when it is safe to gather again we will have a celebration of George’s life.
