Saint George, Utah - Glen L Boyer, 86, passed away on June 4, 2025. He was born on October 20, 1938, in Hoytsville, Utah, to Lyle Emerson and Helen Maxine Winters Boyer.
Glen grew up in Coalville, Utah, a small town that, in many ways, he never left. He delivered newspapers throughout his young life, suffering the coldest winters in Utah. Coming from a ranching family, he spent summers herding sheep in the High Unitas, growing six inches during one summer and ultimately becoming a master fly fisherman.
During the school year, the basketball hoop that hung in the old garage would draw boys to the Boyer home after school and on the weekends, becoming a significant outlet for Glen, who was always surrounded by his five beloved sisters and his young brother.
Glen, ever the jokester, wasn’t always the best student, though he had a quick mind and was great with math. He became a high school basketball player and accepted a scholarship to Utah State University, playing guard. At that point, he learned two surprising things for a kid: He would never be the best basketball player in college or make the big leagues, but most importantly, he discovered that he had what it took to get a four-year degree, which truly surprised him.
Glen was honored to serve an LDS mission in the British Isles. He loved the people there and returned several times to revisit his relationships and memories.
His first gig was as a teacher in Salt Lake City. He soon received his Master’s degree and then pursued his Ph.D. in Grand Forks, North Dakota, during which time he met his future wife, also a graduate student. He married Royanne Dunn on October 6, 1966, in the Salt Lake City temple.
Within a year, the BYU School of Management offered him a teaching position that turned into a 33-year career. He retired at 62. The next twenty years were spent in St. George, UT.
Throughout his life, Glen was dedicated to his Church and his family, along with any basketball teams that included a player or coach from BYU. He wasn’t much of a talker and truly disliked ‘work politics’, yet he was true to the State of Utah, BYU, and the people he loved. Above all, he was devoted to his faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will continue to resonate in the hearts of those of us who knew him as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his even character and gravity, his monumental integrity, and his unwavering loyalty and devotion. Above all, we remember him as the wonderful man we all deeply loved and respected.
Glen is survived by his wife Royanne in St George; Patrick (Melanie) Boyer; Provo Utah, Heather (Lyle) Page; Draper, Utah, Holly (Cory) Bargeron; Eagle Mountain, Utah; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and his four sisters, Louise McPherson; Nephi, Utah; Betty Piesley; Riverton, Utah; Bonnie Jones; South Jordan, Utah; and Lori Rees; Hoystville, Utah. Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Emerson Boyer and Helen Maxine Boyer, his brother, Roy Boyer, and his sister, Luana Lewis.
