Janice K Soderberg Gibson was born December 29, 1953, in Van Nuys California. She was the fourth child of five and only girl born to Beulah Rands Soderberg. She spent her childhood and teen years in Reseda, California embracing the California lifestyle of the era and loved going to the ocean with her friends. She had an especially close relationship with her Grandmother Marie Rands. She met Gerry Gibson, and they eloped at the age of 16 and 18 to Tijuana, Mexico. They were later formally married in Woodland Hills, California in 1971.

Janice and Gerry welcomed their first child, a daughter, Amy Ann; to the world on December 2, 1972, and she was followed shortly thereafter by Janice and Gerry’s first son Joel Gray on January 22, 1974. The family moved to Southern Utah to be closer to Gerry’s family in 1980 and settled in Washington City. They welcomed their second son Beau Abner on October 12, 1984, and their family completed with the arrival of their daughter Geri Marie on May 25, 1987. During this time of her life Janice enjoyed being active in her community, including crafting with her friends in relief society and playing softball. Janice found joy and peace near the ocean, Hawaii specifically and always loved her time in those places. Janice and Gerry were married for 49 years and divorced in 2020. Throughout all the struggles in her life Janice’s children were her greatest pride and joy and the loves of her life.

Janice passed away in her sleep late in the evening of August 18, 2025, in her home of 29 years with her son Beau holding her hand. She is survived by her children Amy (Greg) Roper of Casper, Wyoming; Joel (Shauni) Gibson of Arizona, Beau Gibson of Washington, Utah; Geri (Ryan) Groskreutz of Hurricane, Utah; and younger brother Dante Couterier of St. George, Utah. She has 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Mother Beulah, her stepfather Paul Soderberg, her biological father Nathan E Vaughn, three older brothers Paul, Darrell, and Denny Soderberg, and her mother and father-in-law Gary and Edna Gibson whom she adored and loved as parents.

We will miss our mother greatly but are happy she is able to be with her Father in Heaven and all her loved ones that have preceded her.

The family will be holding a private graveside ceremony for invited family and friends to celebrate Janice. The family would like to thank Beau for his love and attention to Janice over the last several years and especially near the end. Any wishes, condolences, or flowers can be directed to Hughes Mortuary whom we thank for their great care of our mother.
