Janice Harrison Nylund

Janice Harrison Nylund, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away September 1, 2026 in St. George, Utah surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born on November 27, 1950, in Vernal, Utah, to Helen Marie Bullock and John Carlin Harrison. Growing up in Vernal, her fun-loving, outgoing and friendly personality endeared her to many, fostering an early and lifelong appreciation for true friendship. She graduated from Vernal High School in 1969.

Janice welcomed her daughter, Marcy, in 1970 during an earlier marriage. After that chapter ended, Janice met the love of her life, Rick Nylund at a church dance. On December 8, 1972, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple. Together they added 2 beloved sons Cade and Blake. They created a warm, service-filled home where they raised their children with devotion and joy.

Janice will be remembered for her generous heart, quick wit and an ever-present sense of humor that lifted everyone around her. After earning her nursing degree from Weber State University, she began her career in rural Tremonton, Utah, where her passion for healing took root. She went on to serve 30 years as an inpatient psychiatric nurse at Dixie Regional Medical Center, offering deep empathy and thoughtful care to patients and their families navigating mental health disorders, substance abuse, and emotional hardship.

Outside of work, Janice embraced the rich beauty of life. She traveled the world, enjoying walks on the beach collecting seashells. She poured her warmth and creativity into handmade quilts and crochet pieces, which she generously gifted to loved ones. Janice was a compassionate advocate for humane treatment of animals. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished time working with Primary children and Young Women. Janice expressed her faith and spirituality through quiet, constant service, especially to those experiencing life’s greatest challenges. Family gatherings were the true light of her life, and she took immense pride in supporting her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Above all, Janice brought joy and playfulness wherever she went, leaving behind a legacy of pranks, jump scares, silly faces, and unforgettable laughter.

Janice is survived by her devoted husband, Rick Nylund; her children, Marcy (Shane) Olson, Cade (Emily) Nylund, and Blake Nylund; her cherished grandchildren, Harrison, Jack, Choe, Henry, Caroline, Mary, Sarah, Luke, James and Anna; and sister, Vivian Colobella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Carlin Harrison and Helen Marie Bullock, and siblings Gary Harrison and Joan Janes.

Funeral services will be held on September 12th at 11:00 at Hughes Funeral Home, 1037 E 700 S St, St George, UT 84790. A viewing/visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:50. Janice will be laid to rest at the Leeds Silver Reef Protestant Cemetery in Leeds, Utah.
