Joanne L Hayward, 85, passed away on December 25th, 2025. She was born on June 27th, 1940 in Elton, New York to Mary L. Rummel (Sherwood) and Paul E. Rummel. She was married to Douglas J. Hayward on September 9th, 1961 at the First Baptist Church of Ceres, California.

Joanne was raised for the first couple of years in the Buffalo, New York area until her parents moved to Modesto, California. She graduated from Modesto Christian High School in 1958, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois in 1960 and completed a linguistics course in the summer of 1963 at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Following this she graduated from Westmont College, Santa Barbara, California with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a California teachers certificate in 1964. At a later date she went on to obtain her Masters degree in English as a second language at the University of California, Santa Barbara, California.

Joanne worked in Mulia, West Papua, Indonesia (formerly called Irian Jaya, Indonesia and Dutch New Guinea) in support of her husband's missionary work from 1967 to 1986. She worked as a teacher, tutorer, helped with literacy programs, and taught young women to sew. She learned two foreign languages and loved the people she worked with. She also loved and raised three children. Following her work overseas she continued teaching as an elementary teacher in California before retiring and moving to St George, Utah.

Joanne said her time raising a family and working overseas were some of the best years of her life. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. While overseas she enjoyed walking.... which was not an easy task as the valley she lived in was steep. She also loved arts and crafts, plants, and flowers.

Joanne is survived by her husband Douglas J. Hayward of Washington, Utah, Holly R. Hayward of Lewistown, Montana, and John (Scott) Hayward and his wife Adriana Hayward of Las Vegas, Nevada. She has four grandchildren.... Andrew S. Hayward from Auburn Washington, Katie A. Teeler from Kent, Washington, and Lauren and Nathan Hayward from Plymouth, Minnesota. She has three great grandchildren....Emma and Isaac Hayward and Ophelia Teeler. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son James Hayward, sister Rosalyn Tunison, and brother Jonathan Rummel.
