John Carlyle Horton, age 78, returned to the arms of his loving wife, Pam on January 30, 2026. He was born September 10, 1947 to Marvin and Lorraine Horton. John and his sweetheart, Pam were married in the St George Temple on September 20, 1969.
Growing up John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather. He has always been creative to build things and talented in carpentry. As a young man, he took the motor from his dad’s lawnmower and attached it to his bike so he could deliver newspapers to all of Milford. Needless to say, his father was not happy but John was happy to deliver the newspapers faster.
Before he went to college, John worked for the railroad in Oregon as a chain gang member. He would work Monday through Friday and go back to Milford on Friday night, to return back to Oregon on Sunday. This is how he earned his money for college.
John moved to Provo to attend college at Provo Trade Tech to get his certificate in carpentry. He love to build anything and had a talent for working with wood. One of the many things he will be missed for is his knowledge of wood working. You could ask him how to fix or do something and he always could give you the best way to accomplish your task. He made many friends as he would go to the different jobs to install cabinets. As we all know, one of John’s best abilities was the ability to talk to anyone. He loved to talk to people and get to know them. He was a friend to all.
As his girls were growing, he spend a lot of his time with the scouting program. Through scouting, he helped him develop many relationship with young men and leaders. John cherished the time he spent helping these boys and young men grow to love scouting like he did. A lot of wonderful memories were created that he would talk about throughout the years. He receive the silver beaver award for his contribution to the scouting program.
You could find John on Saturdays supporting his family through activities and different events that grandchildren were participating in. He and Pam went to every soccer game, t-ball game, basketball game, baseball game, and dance recital. They loved their children and grandchildren and showed it in many ways.
Flowers were Pam’s favorite. You could often find flowers in their home because John would get them for her. John loved Pam with all of his heart.
John’s true love passed away 27 days before him. What a glorious reunion they are experiencing. They are now together again.
He leaves a legacy of love with his two daughters, Stefanie (Randy), Camille (Sean), and one son, Mike (Lori). Six grandchildren, Tason (Allie), Tayosha (Billie Jay), Traxten (Kesley), Rayden, Levi and Hunter. Eight great grandchildren. Spending time with family brought happiness to John.
