Listen to Obituary

Judy Spencer Torgerson, 77, of St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on November 7th, 2025. Judy blessed the lives of everyone who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

Judy was born in Dragerton, Utah, on October 4th, 1948, to Orson and Olga Spencer. She was the second of 5 siblings. Judy’s early days were spent in Price, Utah, where she enjoyed an active childhood with her siblings and friends. They recall her spunk and zest for life which helped her form lasting relationships with those she loved.

Judy met Rand Torgerson in Price, Utah, and they married in the Salt Lake Temple in October of 1969. Judy and Rand have shared a special love for each other for over fifty years. More than companions, they were inseparable parts of each others’ lives, deeply connected for time and all eternity.

Judy loved children and worked to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Utah State University. She returned to Price and taught elementary school.

Judy had 6 children, whom she brought up with loving kindness. Motherhood was more than a calling to Judy; it was her life’s work, and her children were her pride and joy. Judy’s children fondly remember her selfless energy, supportive honesty, and fun sense of humor. She used to those characteristics to nurture and guide them through their lives.

Judy loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and her relationships with her posterity were unique and strong. Judy took careful time to make sure each child knew they were loved and cherished. She taught many of her grandchildren how to sew and craft. Judy instilled in them her infectious creativity, which they carry with them to this day and will for the rest of their lives.

Like the quilts she devoted so much time to creating, Judy’s life was a colorful tapestry of experiences, resilience, and strength. Each friendship was carefully woven into her life, and she had a keen ability to make everyone she knew feel loved and special. Despite moving several times throughout her life, Judy masterfully made new friends everywhere she lived. She exhibited the love of her Savior such that each person who felt her love knew His love as well. Judy endured many health trials during her life but was always buoyed up by her faith in Christ. Her resilience and positive attitude in the face of adversity were always an example to all who knew her.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents (Olga and Orson), one brother (Jon Wallace), two children (Anika and Spencer), and two grandchildren (Ava and Ella). Though her mortal journey has ended, her family takes comfort in knowing that the reunion in Heaven was sweet. Judy is survived by five of her siblings, four of her children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherished their time with her.
