Karen Louise Cosby age 79, passed away Aug. 4, 2025 after a swift battle with cancer. She was born July 17, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Ut to James M Hunter and Mildred Annie Moore.
Karen was raised in Bountiful Utah in her dad’s ice cream store. She spoke fondly of that time. She graduated from Bountiful high and married early, having 6 children. They moved a lot, finally settling in Ogden, Utah. After the birth of her last child, she found herself needing to support her children. She went back to school to get her nursing degree from Weber State College. She worked her way up from CNA to LPN, to RN and enjoyed many different fields of nursing. She worked on a rehab unit for many years before making a move to southern Utah and opening hospice in remote areas of Arizona and Nevada. She worked in the wound clinic and many patients remember her as the singing nurse. She did a few years of private nursing before retiring from IHC after 35 years. She was born to be a caregiver.
Karen enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. She enjoyed working in the yard pulling weeds and tending the garden. She enjoyed time on the southern Oregon coast. Karen enjoyed sports whether it was the Utah Jazz basketball, Colorado Rockies baseball, or football, she was ready to root for a team. She especially enjoyed watching her great grandkids play sports and cheering them on. She loved her grandkids and spending time with their kids, having sleepovers and making special memories. She enjoyed her friends and going to the movies.
Karen was a very devout and active member in the LDS Church. She made many great friends and held various positions from cub scouts to primary to relief
society. She was an active member of the daughters of the Utah pioneers. She was a wonderful, kind person full of love that people gravitated to. She had the greatest sense of humor and did her best to make everyone laugh. She was known by several alias- Alice, grams, grandma sparkles to name a few.
