Kay Bruggeman

November 15, 1933 — October 22, 2022

Ivins

Kay Andelin Bruggeman passed serenely on October 22, 2022, encompassed by her family. Kay was born November 15, 1933, in West Hollywood, California to Lavell and Melba Hansen Andelin. Kay had an older sister, Shanna Lee, and looked forward to a younger sister, Linda. Eventually, a younger brother Michael joined the family.

Mom grew up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the warmth of the California sun. While living during the Great Depression, she learned her love of country and how to make something out of nothing. This talent would serve her throughout her life.

Mom married Dennis Harris. While living in the Salt Lake Valley, she and Dennis had four children; Jody, Ginger, Randy, and Cory.

Mom divorced Dennis and moved back to California. While waitressing at Van de Kamp’s, she met the man she would be married to for the next 60 years, Robert Howard Bruggeman. Robert was young, dashingly handsome and devoted to Kay. They would have two sons, Robert Jr. and Derek, later adopting a baby girl, Andelin.

Living in many places allowed her to use all of her talents. She would beautify her surroundings, and enhance the lives of her children. Her children remember growing up with the best Halloween costumes around. She had a talent for painting, drawing, interior design, sewing, writing poems and stories, cooking, producing plays, and road shows. Members of the Toquerville First Ward still remember the fabulous costumes and music. Mom traveled the world using her skills as a designer and winning awards for her model homes.

Mom had faith in her Savior and worked hard to be an example of love and service to the Lord. This was evident in her willingness to serve in her church callings and volunteer work. No matter how large or small the calling was, she magnified her abilities to do her best. These qualities were passed on to her children. Mom was a temple worker for many years and enjoyed a mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo with her dear husband and life-long companion, Bob.

After living in Toquerville, Utah for 35 years, mom and dad moved to Ivins, Utah. Living in Ivins was a joy to Mom and Dad. Being close to their grandchildren was a  source of happiness in their declining  years.

Kay is survived by her sister Linda (Frank) Mamone and children; Jody Harris, Ginger (Dave) Compton, Randy Harris, Cory (Laura) Harris, Robert (Kelle) Bruggeman Jr, Derek (Jennifer) Bruggeman, and Andelin (Mark) Gubler. Kay and Bob’s posterity include grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many great- great-grandchildren.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, sister Shanna, brother Michael, daughter-in-law Wendy, and two grandchildren, Taylor and Jada.

The funeral will be held Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 11:00 at the Red Cliffs 2nd Ward Chapel.  625 E Center St Ivins, UT  84738. Viewing will be from  9:00-10:30 with a family prayer at 10:30. Interment at the Ivins Cemetery followed by a family luncheon at the church.
