Kevin Todd Cottam

December 24, 1959 — January 28, 2025

St. George, UT

Kevin Todd (KT) Cottam was an early Christmas present for his family in Twentynine Palms, California. Born on Christmas Eve in 1959, KT enjoyed growing up with his holiday birthday celebration.

Living in California during the ‘60s and ‘70’s had its challenges, and Kevin did not always navigate those challenges well. He readily admitted that he struggled and failed in several musical endeavors and religions before hitting the proverbial “rock bottom” that led him in a beautiful, new direction for his life.

Kevin began attending a Bible-based church where the knowledge of Who God is and what He wanted to do for Kevin became abundantly clear. It was in the quiet of a lonely night that Kevin called out to God for His gift of eternal salvation and Kevin’s life was forever changed.

A friend from his church quoted II Corinthians 5:17 “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold all things have become new” and told Kevin he was now new in Christ so she was going to call him KT going forward. Kevin embraced his new life as a believer in Christ and his new name of KT.

KT moved to St. George, Utah as a young adult and began attending a newly started church. He became life-long friends with several there including the one who would later introduce him to the love of his life, Lois.

KT and Lois married on May 22, 1999. They loved each other deeply and literally made beautiful music together as they served several churches with their giftedness. KT’s music briefly stopped in 2017 when Lois passed away of pancreatic cancer. He quickly realized Lois would want him to continue serving as the Music Minister in their church. He faithfully did so even while fighting his own glioblastoma cancer.

KT had another artistic side that truly blossomed when he began working for Whitaker Studio in October 2003. He thrived as an artisan building kinetic wind sculptures designed by Lyman Whitaker. KT had the opportunity to design one special wind sculpture himself, which he named The Ponderosa.

After his brain tumor diagnosis in October of 2023, KT was hit hard by the realization that life truly is like a vapor (James 4:14). Though naturally introverted, he was determined to make an impact for eternity on those he met. During his 15 month battle, he engaged many visitors, care givers, and friends on topics of conversation that drew them to the ultimate question of where they would spend eternity.

KT is survived by many family members, his church family of First Southern Baptist Church, and friends near and far.

KT did not fear death because he knew his eternal life rested entirely on Jesus’ payment for all of his sins. He knew he had nothing good to offer for his entrance into Heaven. His dying wish was that you too would know the peace that comes from receiving salvation, through biblical faith in Jesus Christ .

A Celebration of KT Cottam’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 8th , at 10 AM at First Southern Baptist Church, 475 W. Buena Vista Boulevard, Washington, UT.

Interment will follow on Wednesday, February 12th, at 1 PM at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive in St. George, UT.
