LaRae Tong Stewart

LaRae Tong Stewart, age 82, of St. George, Utah, left her loved ones Sunday, May 11, 2025. She was born November 14, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Louie Sare Tong and Ruth Angie Jones. She had 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

LaRae graduated from Cedar City High School where she was on the drill team and a hard worker. She worked for Hughes Airline as a stewardess, and Hughes Cafe in Cedar City where she met her husband, Sidney John Stewart, who frequented the cafe. They were married May 21, 1966 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and their marriage was later solemnized May 22, 1969 in the Los Angeles, California Temple.

LaRae was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had many callings, but loved her calling of working in the St. George Temple for many years. She was always serving neighbors, family, and friends, and teaching others to tie quilts and make homemade candy. She will be missed by many.

LaRae is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Sid; her four children: Cindy (Todd) Edwards, Terry Stewart, Michelle (Rob) Miller, and Kristie (Ruston) Spadafora; brothers: Louie and Ray Tong; sister: Kay Wilkinson; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Bernice Fitches and Lucille Amador.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Tonaquint Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hughes Mortuary (435-674-5000).
