Listen to Obituary

Lolene Leavitt Hansen, 71, passed away at her home in Spanish Fork, UT on February 22, 2026, after enduring a long battle with cancer. Her family always knew she was “as strong as they come,” but nothing could have prepared them for the long years she endured quietly fighting and doing everything she could to stay as long as possible on this side.

She was a woman of few words, but her actions always spoke volumes. She loved with all her heart. A wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandma. Lolene left a significant imprint on all of our worlds and she will be missed dearly.

Born on October 3, 1954 in St George Utah to Loie Prince and Paul Leavitt. She would be the oldest of their 5 children: Mary Jane, Bri, Molly and Minnie. She loved leading the “Leavitt Kids” on many adventures running around in their beloved town of Gunlock, Utah. When they weren’t fulfilling their duties helping out in Dad’s Orchard, Lolene would gather them up to go take a swim in the reservoir, ride horses, scratch their names in Sandstone, explore the infamous Gunlock bowl and run all over the town until dark.

Lolene attended Dixie High school and graduated in 1972. She was very active on Student Council, dancing for the Jettettes, participating in Performing Arts, and was also recognized for her academics on the High Honor Roll. She was a proud “Flyer” and loved these years of involvement with peers, but her greatest accomplishment was getting the attention of the handsome older senior, Charlie Hansen. Rumor has it that whenever Charlie pulled into Gunlock, the girls were so giddy and would run to take a peek at the cute St George boy they all thought had a striking resemblance to the famous Elvis Presley.

Lolene kept Charlie smitten and they were married a year after she graduated on February 3, 1973, in the St George Temple. They would make their home in Southern Utah for the next 30 years. Here, they would raise their 3 boys: Clint, Travis, and Garrett. Together, She and Charlie created a successful contracting and plumbing company. Charlie would run the work sites and Lolene would keep them organized with detailed book keeping. Moving many times as they created beautiful homes curated by Lolene’s eye for design that quickly attracted the attention of local buyers, Lolene remained patient and adaptable. As long as she had her McDonald’s coke in hand, she could roll with the many changes that came their way in this busy season of life.

A woman of many talents, Lolene had an ability to make the world more beautiful in every way. She was known to sew a prom dress for her sister growing up, whole suits for her boys and many quilts for her grandkids that will long be treasured as masterpieces of love. She had an eye and everything she did, she did well . Known to be an amazing cook, she always had a new stack of recipes on her counter of delicious creations she wanted to try. She was good at it all but her ability to bake was unmatched. Her boys always had special requests on their birthdays for her homemade sweets that no one could replicate as much as they tried.

Lolene’s greatest passion and hobby though was her ability to garden. She loved flowers and they seemed to love her right back. She studied everything there was to know on horticulture and loved to share this information with anyone who asked. She could make anything grow and naturally knew how to group plants all together to make a literal work of art in her yard.

In later years, Charlie and Lolene would treasure their time spent in Provo Canyon hiking and biking with the beautiful scenery all around. They loved the mountains and relocated to Northern Utah in the early 2000’s.

Lolene loved being a Grandma to her 7 grandchildren most of all and wanted to be at every important event with them big and small. Often traveling across the state, she made the sacrifice to be part of the memories. All of her grandkids knew her to be quiet, reserved, and never in the spotlight of life, but they each felt her love immensely due to her determination to be present with them in their accomplishments. She knew how to love and make you feel important.

We will miss you dearly Grandma and we’ll think of you every time we see a beautiful flower, eat Chocolate Lush or drink a McDonald’s coke.

Lolene is survived by her spouse Charlie Hansen of Spanish Fork, UT; children, Clint (Kirsten) of Santa Clara, UT; Travis of Spanish Fork, UT; Garrett (Jillian) of St George, UT; grandchildren, Brayden, Alyvia, Parker, Talan, Cooper, Layney, and Tessa; her siblings, Mary Jane Esplin, Bri Leavitt, Molly Bowers, and Minnie Hughes. She is preceded in death by her parents, Loie and Paul.
