Lowell Delmar Bundy, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife Penny next to him in their home on September 17th, in Wheatland, Ca.
Son of James Bundy (Ben) and Beatrice (Nelson) was born on March 3, 1947 in St George, Ut as the third of eleven children. He grew up on his parents' ranch in Mt Trumbull, Az with a wonderful childhood filled with memories of milking the family cow, building fences, eating raw potatoes, branding cattle, working on roads, using an outhouse, having no running water or electricity, and taking baths in a #3 tub shared by his family on Saturday nights before church Sunday. He attended a one room school house for grades K-8 with his siblings, cousins and a few other locals. For his high school years he moved to St. George to live with his Grandma Nelson and attended Dixie High. He graduated at 17 years old and joined the Army National Guard from 1964-1968, while also attending Dixie Jr College. In 1967 he was called to serve a 2yr mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Peru and Ecuador.
After serving his mission he attended Brigham Young University where he met and fell in love with Pendrea Berlye Schanz. He was drawn to her stunning brown eyes and her cooking. She put up with his mustache and motorcycle driving and the two were married and sealed in the St George Temple on March 18th,1972. While attending BYU he was in the Air Force ROTC and upon graduation he was commissioned an officer. He then served in the United States Air Force where his first assignment for pilot training was Williams Air Force base in Chandler, Az. He flew T-37 and T-38 planes to earn his wings. When he finished pilot training he was sent to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. He and Penny were there from 1973-1976 where he flew the C-118. In 1976-77 he was assigned to Offutt AFB outside Lincoln, Nebraska until he was honorably discharged after discovering a blind spot in his right eye. His love for planes and flying never left.
Penny and Lowell had their first daughter Stefanie Lynn in 1972 while in AZ, followed by three more beautiful daughters, Cynthia Rae (Ramstein, Germany) 1976, Kristy Lee 1977, and Jacklyn Jean 1980. Lowell was teased many times about not having a son, but he loved his 4 daughters dearly and was their biggest fan in all their sports and activities. He was a great story teller, never raised his voice, made sure his girls respected their mother and gave them a firm foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His humility, faith, kindness, and love has set a lasting example for his daughters and 22 grandchildren.
Lowell served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in several Bishoprics, as ward Executive Secretary, Mission Leader, and Seminary Teacher. Later in life he was able to serve a two year mission with Penny as Pathway Missionaries and were also temple workers in the Sacramento Temple for several years.
Lowell could be found in his spare time with his wife Penny by his side. They were married for 52 years, always put each other first and were a true example of compassion, service, and love. They loved to travel together when they had a fifth wheel trailer. Lowell loved the mountains and took his wife and girls camping and hiking all the time. One of his favorite places to go was back to the mountain he grew up on in Mt Trumbull, Az. He loved country music, deep sea fishing, a good steak, watching football (BYU & 49ers) and long drives with Penny.
Lowell was preceded in death by his grandson Tyce Donald Wagnon, two of his 6 brothers, LaVoy Bundy and Donl Bundy, 2 of his 4 sisters, Gayle Hansen and Cheryl Abbott and his parents, James and Beatrice Bundy.
He is survived by his wife Penny, his daughters Stefanie (Kelly) Foster, Cynthia (Jared) Rowe, Kristy (Jeff) Routsong, and Jacklyn (Eric) Wagnon, as well as 21 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Clayon (Margo) Bundy, Wendell (Kayleen) Bundy, Les (Chris) Bundy, Newman (Yvonne) Bundy, and sisters; Veda (Dave) Hatch, and Arlene (Dennis) May.
