Lucy Edna Asbury Bowman

Lucy Edna (Asbury) Bowman passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the age of 94.

The sores on her legs that plagued her since childhood and the systemic infection from them played a role in her decline.

Lucy was born April 29, 1924 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  Lucy's parents were Frank Lee Asbury and Muriel May Steinmeyer.  Her parents divorced and her mother remarried.

After a business venture in Arizona the family moved to St George Utah.  There Lucy attended Dixie High and married Samuel Senate Bowman.  It was easy for Lucy and Sam to meet as they lived across the street from each other and Sam sometimes worked for her family.  The Bowman family hailed from the Douglas Arizona area.

For a stay-at-home mother of 8 Lucy managed to see quite a bit of the US, living in at least five states and vacationing and visiting from New York to the state of Washington, from Florida to Hawaii.

Lucy loved visiting the big zoos and loved  all her cats and dogs over the years.  She even considered the old milk cows her pets.

As a senior citizen Lucy attended night school and got her GED.  Her hobbies were jigsaw and crossword puzzles.  Her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

In her lifetime Lucy attended the Baptist and Pentecostal churches, but lastly joined The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints being baptized the same day as three of her children.  Lucy never talked of her testimony but once said, "The Lord is found in this church."  She served as Sunday School secretary twice and worked in the St George Temple for many years.  She did the genealogy and had the temple work done for many family members.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Sam Bowman,  her only sibling Frank Nickerson, daughter Nancy Lorraine Corley,  grandson Collin Bowman, granddaughter Anita Rose Corley,  great-grandson Ute Weber, and great-granddaughter Andrea Lewallen.

Lucy is survived by her daughter's Laska Kelsey and Star Corley (Brian) and her 5 sons Sam, Gary, Wiley, Lester, and Mel - Bowman's all.  She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Lucy was separated from her father at a very tender age.  It was her unfulfilled desire to be reunited with him.  Now she gets to know him and learn of his love.  And she will know who was the man with the blue eyes.

Lucy was widowed for 41 years.  You've got to know that when she crossed over to the other side her husband, Sam, said, as he always did, "What took you so long, Woman?"

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 a. m. at 750 N. 1000 W. St George in the LDS chapel behind the first chapel off Ridgeview Drive.  Viewing will be prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45.  Internment will be the St George Cemetery at 650 East Tabernacle.

The family of Lucy Bowman would like to thank all those who gave our mother and grandma loving ❤ care in her end times - Dixie Regional Medical Center, Red Cliffs Health and Rehab, Seasons Health and Rehab, Zion's Way Home Health and Hospice and all of her doctors and nursing staff.

Thanks to Bishop Bundy, R.S. Pres. Julie McGary and the Relief Society sisters of Lucy's ward for their service to our family.  Special thanks to Lucy's faithful home teachers, Bro. & Sis.  Ron Chamberlian, and all those that continued to visit her.

We would also like to thank everyone at Hughes Mortuary for making this whole process comfortable and for use of their web site.
