Madelyn Eunice Griffin, 76, of Escalante, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah.
Madelyn was born on May 8, 1949, in Rochester, New York, to Richard Henry Lemperle and Virginia Maxine Forrest-Crowell. Madelyn grew up with 52 foster siblings over the course of her mother's life.

Madelyn was a loving and caring woman of God whose life was marked by compassion, faith, and service to others. She celebrated 24 years of sobriety, a milestone she carried with deep gratitude and humility. Her journeyinspired many, and she dedicated her life to helping others through kindness, understanding, and unwavering support.Those who knew Madelyn will remember her gentle heart, her strength, and her sincere desire to uplift those around her.She worked as a nursing aide and in the psychiatric field, where her natural empathy and care for others shone through. Madelyn made her home in Escalante, Utah.
She is survived by her son, Ethan Tyrell Griffin of Escalante, Utah; her spouse, James Michael VerNooy; her brother, Myron Lemperle; and a special sister, Ann Kulp.She was preceded in death by her parents and Ethans father Robert Eugene Griffin.
Madelyn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 220 N 300 W, Escalante, Utah 84726.
