Maria Bernarda Martinez

October 9, 1922 — November 5, 2016

Maria Bernarda Martinez

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister passed away on Saturday, November 5th, 2016. Maria Bernarda Talavera Martinez, was born on October 9, 1922 in Missiones Argentina to Juan Talavera, an accountant, and to Ciriaca Fraga, who was a seamstress of fine clothing. She was the second youngest out of ten children and she married the love of her life Eduardo Martinez and they were together for many loving years until he passed away. She accomplished many things in life, building and designing an addition to her home in Argentina; canoeing across the treacherous Parana River by herself to buy fabric to make her children's clothing, reading classic literature, always learning new things and living in two different continents in her lifetime. Her greatest pride, joy and love was being a mother to her beloved children. She had 11 biological children in all. Two have preceded her in death (Eduardo Martinez and Maria Ladys). Because of her love, she became a mother and grandmother to many more acquaintances and children and she considered all of them to be one of her own.

One of the things that she will be remembered for is the love she had for all people. She saw everyone for the beauty they had inside and out and always made each person feel important, special, and loved by her. She was a great listener and remembered every one of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s birthdays, names and much more. Her memory never failed her. She was a sophisticated writer who would often write beautiful passages in her journal. She wrote about life, love, family, and all the things that made her happy. Her passion for life and learning was apparent in the way she lived her life. She was always reading and learning about new things, current events and issues. She could relate to people of all ages and walks of life. The love and warmth in her eyes and demeanor conveyed the love she had for each person she came in contact with. Her hobbies and interests included gardening, flowers, reading, music, knitting, and embroidery. Her grandchildren often said that she had a special touch for all plants, and she could make anything, even a dead plant, grow again. Her two treasures in life was her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and her family. We lost an angel and our grief is deep in our heart. Yet, we are comforted in the knowledge that she was received into Heavenly Father's loving arms and into his kingdom to join her eternal companion and her two children.

She is survived by her children; Carmen (Silvio), Olga (Lico), Hugo (Martha), Luis (Betty), Grace, Ana, Jose (Maria Ines), Alfredo (Silvia), Rita (Gary), and Laura; 35 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
