Obituary for Marie Berg Morgan who passed away in Washington, Utah – age 89

Date of Death June 20, 2026.

Born December 5, 1936, Heber City, Utah to Oscar Alexander Berg and Flora Bond. When Marie was born, they were overjoyed at the birth of another baby girl. Flora said Marie was “such a doll and so sweet.” She was the eighth of ten children.

Marie spent her early childhood years growing up on a farm in Heber, Utah. She helped with many daily family chores including herding 10 head of cattle across the road to graze during the day, bringing them home at night, and milking them, sometimes alongside her older brothers. She had a loyal dog named Tippy that would accompany her in her daily chores. She had a happy childhood and learned many homemaking skills from her mother, including baking, canning, sewing, quilting, making butter, and crocheting.

At age 13 her family moved to Lawndale, California. She attended Leuzinger High School. She played the clarinet in the High School Band. Her Junior year, 1954, the band marched in the Rose Parade where she met Roy Rogers and Dale Evans who were equestrians in the parade. She was thrilled. She earned many county fair ribbons for her excellent seamstress skills - home sewn aprons and dresses. She attended early morning seminary, She had a love of genealogy. Her brothers were a big part of her life. She writes in her diary about many experiences she had with her brothers. She played referee between her younger brothers, Richard and Russell and may have gotten bruised in the process.

Marie attended El Camino Community College after graduating high school 6 months earlier than her peers. She did feel strange when she went back in June to walk with her class for graduation because she had already started her adult life.

G. Lynn Morgan courted Marie for well over a year before she said YES. They were married for 68 years after being sealed for time and all eternity the 15th of February, 1958 in the Los Angeles, California temple. She was such a talented seamstress that she made her own wedding dress! She looked stunning in it! Marie and Lynn lived in Lawndale, Wilmington, California before moving to Simi Valley, California., in 1966. She and Lynn had their first child, Dean Ray in 1959, Alaina Rose in 1961, Sherry Ann in 1966, and Selena Joy in 1968.

Marie was delighted to have such a beautiful family. She raised her kids with so much love. She didn’t question the divine role she had being a daughter of God, a Wife and Mother. She always did her best to love and serve her family. She was an example of the believers of Christ to her children and to all who knew her. She attended sacrament meetings with her family each and every Sunday. Her church family loved her very much. She looked forward to attending the temple whenever she could to worship and renew her covenants with the Lord.

Marie served in many callings in the church. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader for her son Dean’s den, a primary teacher, a compassionate service leader, was in the Singing Mother’s choral group, the ward organist, and a Beehive Advisor for the Young Women’s group. She served as the scribe for the Stake Patriarch. She was a support and helpmeet to Lynn when he served for many years as a bishopric member and then a bishop in the Simi II ward. She sat with four children many, many Sundays by herself keeping them under control. She would sit the family in the second row so their Dad could keep a loving eye on them. She served for many years later in life with her husband Lynn in Tucson, Arizona as early morning seminary principles for the youth. The kids loved them. In 2007 Marie and Lynn served two-years for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Arizona, Tucson Mission. Marie was the office secretary and Lynn, the executive secretary. All four of her children gathered on their 50th wedding anniversary weekend, while on their mission, to surprise them for a celebration. It was a beautiful, memorable time for all.

Marie started working in 1977 as a secretary with Hughes Aircraft Company. She and Lynn moved to Tucson, Arizona and they both worked for Raytheon until she retired in 2000. She then worked for Amphi school district in Tucson, Arizona for 6 years as a substitute in the office or as an aide.

Marie’s hobbies and interesting talents included sewing, baking, making jam, canning, painting, playing the piano, crocheting, singing, swimming and serving others and she enjoyed collecting rocks.

She loved her family so much and loved seeing them whenever she could. Her home and heart were always welcoming. She loved her husband Lynn so much. He was her strong anchor throughout her life.

Marie and Lynn have been blessed with four children, who have given them a great posterity of twenty-two grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
