Nancy Ann Hughes Nelson

Nancy Ann Hughes Nelson died June 21, 2025 in St. George, Utah surrounded by family. She was born in Hawthorne, Nevada on September 28, 1940 to William Lamond & Lenna Grace Bowler Hughes. 

Nancy spent her growing up years in Mesquite, NV and attended the Virgin Valley Schools and graduated in 1958. She attended 1 year of College in Cedar City, Utah before moving to Las Vegas where her mother was residing, to find employment.  She was employed at the Central Telephone Company. 

She was called on an LDS mission to the Western States in 1961 serving until 1963. Upon returning home she met the love of her life on a blind date. They were married on July 23, 1964. Ken was the love of her life and later their sons Brent & Troy made their home complete. The boys married and grandchildren became the focus and her attention turned to being a grandmother. She delighted in the accomplishments of  her sons and their families. 

Nancy enjoyed many things in life. Music being her greatest love, she had the opportunity to play the organ & piano for her church calling. Many more opportunities would come her way through the years. She loved to put together programs for church functions.

Nancy was one who liked to try new things. She took advantages of community classes and learned to sew, decorate cakes, & make candy to name a few. Her motto was, you don't know if you can do something unless you try. 

Nancy was a member of the LDS faith & had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She worked in many capacities in the church & loved each one. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for over 20 years and served as a captain on the Dixie Camp for 3 terms. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth & grandson Taylor. She is survived by;Brent (Jilyn) Nelson, Hurricane, UT, Troy L. (Marla) Nelson, Washington, UT. 6 grandchildren- Jordan (Madi) and their children Sophie & Everett, Kaden (Megan), Carter, Teisha (Trevor), & Jacie.

There will be a viewing for Nancy at Hughes Mortuary 1037 East 700 South, St. George, Utah from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday June 27, 2025

Funeral services for Nancy will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint located at 550 East 700 South, St. George, Utah.  There will be a viewing prior to the services at the same location.
