Norma Jean Hoesch Bundy, was born December 23, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026 in St. George, Utah. She would have been 89 years old on her birthday. She was the daughter of Adolph Gustave Hoesch and Norma Sevy, and raised by her step father Roy H. Talbot. She grew up in Panguitch, Utah, where she was deeply influenced by her maternal grandparents. She had a lifelong affection for southern Utah, especially her St. George pioneer roots. She was a proud member of the Dixie Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, as she descended from those courageous people who were called by Brigham Young to settle St. George and build a temple.
Norma loved reading, learning, music, and singing. As a student at Panguitch High School, she served as yearbook editor, participated in student council and school music programs, and represented her school at Girls State in 1955. She began working as a teenager at the Bryce Canyon Cafe, washing dishes before becoming a waitress. Throughout her life, she combined a love of learning with a willingness to lead, teach, and serve.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Faith was a constant in Norma Jean’s life. From childhood, she felt close to God and held a strong testimony. She served in many church callings but she especially loved to be with the little children in Primary.
On April 19, 1957, Norma married Kay Argwen Bundy in the St. George Utah LDS Temple. Together they built a life shaped by work, selfless service, and family. They raised eight children: Kendell, Kayleen, Debbie, Rachel, Casey, Marty, Jenny, and Amy. She devoted 25 years to serving in the temple nursery, caring for young children in a place that was deeply meaningful to her. She learned all about the Montessori Method from her mentor and friend, L’Deane Trublood, and this began her teaching career. She also taught and led a small Montessori preschool program in her home. She devoted herself to motherhood and continued that care into the next generation, lovingly nurturing her grandchildren. She enjoyed singing with the “Melody Moms” and in Ward Choirs.
Norma’s life was an example of perseverance, service, and faith. She navigated the challenges of severe rheumatoid arthritis, which caused significant pain and physical limitations. Yet she continued to care for her family and serve her faith community without complaint. Her leadership was often expressed in quiet, practical ways: nurturing children, teaching, singing, showing up to serve, and living the beliefs she held dear.
Norma believed that every person is a child of God and that Heavenly Father remains near through both hardship and joy. Her own account of her life expressed gratitude for the life she had been given and trust in God’s love. Her example will continue through the children, grandchildren, and many others whose lives she touched.
Norma Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a Sister Louise Tait, and two Sons- in-law, William (Pete) Alvey and Mark D Potter. She is survived by her 8 children Kendell A. Bundy (Diana) of St. George, UT, Kayleen Potter, of Ivins, UT, Deborah Jean Alvey, St. George, UT Rachel Truman (Doug),Enterprise UT. Norman Casey Bundy (Mikell), of St. George, UT, Marty Frank Bundy (Danna), Glencoe, OK, Jenny Suzanne Ipson (Danny) of St. George, UT and Amy Olson (Chase) of St. George, UT. brothers Kenneth Hoesch (Ronna) of Las Vegas Nevada, Tom Talbot (Maxine) of Greenwich Utah, Art Talbot (Mary) of Cedar City Utah and one sister Roma Wilcock (Hal) of Panguitch UT.
