Owen Gile Black, lovingly known as “O” and affectionately called “Otis” by his father, passed away on May 24, 2026, in St. George, Utah, at the age of 33. He was born on May 7, 1993, in Apple Valley, California, and raised in St. George, Utah, where he built a life filled with creativity, passion, and deep connection with those around him.
Owen was a man of extraordinary talent and heart who walked his own path. He found his calling in tattooing, starting as a dedicated apprentice practicing daily until he mastered his craft and became well-respected for his discipline, versatility and speed. Over the next decade, he built a thriving career doing what he loved, eventually becoming co-owner of Tarnished Ones Tattoo alongside one of his closest friends, Daryl Anderson. His artistry left a lasting mark not only through his work, but through the countless people whose lives he touched.
Owen's drive to create showed up everywhere in his life. He was a poet, a painter, and a gifted musician with a beautiful singing voice and talent for playing guitar. Much like his father, he also found peace and joy in the outdoors as a skilled fisherman and explorer. More than anything, Owen will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the way he showed up for others. He was the type of person who would help anyone in need without hesitation. A loyal friend, loving son, devoted father, brother, and artist, Owen’s absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him.
Owen is survived by his loving mother, Maria; his brother, Erik; his sisters, Kendra and her husband Rafael, and Ximena and her husband Marlouie, and their children Daxton and Mila; Carolyn, the mother of his children; and his three beloved sons, Damien, Matthew, and Mason. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gile Black Jr.; his grandmother, Hortensia Ebro Ramila; and his grandfather, Robert Gile Black Sr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South, St. George, Utah 84790. Arrangements have been made through Hughes Mortuary in St. George, Utah.
May he be remembered through the sound of guitar strings, the wind through your hair, laughter among friends, and in the legacy of the three sons he loved so deeply
