Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on Wednesday, February 4th, at home in St George, Utah.
Nina was born on May 24, 1965, already a shining bundle of energy. Born to Manuel DeTorres and Mary Jane Baker.
Nina graduated from Roy High School in Roy, Utah. Although she lived in many places, she called St George, Utah, her home. After high school, she attended college to become a Dental Hygienist. She later joined Acme Publications and became the top sales representative. This was the start of her marketing career.
Nina loved everyone; she never met a stranger. She started fostering kids in all kinds of situations and loved each one of them, but two she could not do without. She later adopted two growing boys, bringing her family to 4 boys.
In 1999 she met Mike Heck and they later married. He brought 2 boys and 1 girl into her family, which made her family a tribe of boys. This still did not complete her family, in 2006 she added another boy to the family.
Nina started her own marketing adventure, Oh My Heck Marketing, in St. George. She has been a member of the St. George Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the St. George Ballet Company Board of Directors, volunteering every year at the Huntsman World Senior Games and the St. George Marathon, and she founded St. George Word of Mouth along with her nephew. She was also involved with Dixie Sunshiners, a Rotary Club, and State President of Business and Professional Women
Her laughter and smile were so infectious and brilliant for all she met and knew.
Nina traveled the world, and she always made even people from other countries laugh and enjoy her.
All the while, she was involved with the community, and she worked at Southgate Senior Living, loving her residents every day. Her achievements and community devotions were rivalled by no one, she was always on the go.
Nina is survived by her husband Mike, her boys Jacob (Crystal), Neal (Sammy), Joshua (Sara), Jon (Megan), Michael Jr., Steven (Connie), Tyler (Clarissa) April and 24 grandchildren. Her Father, Manuel DeTorres (Norene) 5 sisters. 3 Brother and many niece and nephews. Her devoted and special love for her bestie’s Sandie (Tom) and Splendor (Jeremie) and her beloved “Cackling Hens”.
