Peter Marin Schimek, 85, of St. George, Utah passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at home with his children at his side. He was born Petrus Marinus Schimek on December 28, 1939 in Hoboken, Antwerp, Belgium to Rudolf and Joanna Schimek ( Bruynseels).

After surviving the invasion of Belgium during WWII and its aftermath, Pete emigrated to Montreal, Canada with his parents and four brothers. Eventually he would move to Connecticut to before settling in Vermont with his wife and children.

Pete was a mechanical design draftsman and is credited with many accomplishments in the United States, including one of the first two-sided buildings ever constructed in Hartford, Connecticut: the ‘Phoenix Mutual’ building. Pete became a naturalized United States citizen on September 18, 1978, in Jericho, Vermont. He loved western movies and the American Southwest landscape, leading to the family moving to St. George, Utah in 1985.

Pete loved bowling and Judo, ultimately becoming a black belt in Judo where he competed successfully. He loved music, dance and the arts and especially loved people, regardless of their background and adored spending time with them in various settings and playing the piano. Pete wanted everyone in the world to be stress free, at peace with each other and spend time together just having fun. He was the light in his childrens’ life.
