Robert Hunt Gibbs, age 89, died peacefully on Monday April, 28, 2025 at Advanced Healthcare of St George, Utah. Robert was born on November 5, 1935 in Antioch,California to Mildred Hunt and Raymond Gibbs. He was sealed in the Salt Lake City temple to Elsie Marlene Nielson on June 14, 1955.
Robert was raised in Antioch near to San Joaquin River, and spent much of his youth fishing, singing, and working on cars with his father. He graduated from Antioch High School and studied music at Brigham Young University and San Jose State College. Robert was an avid golfer, singer, and mechanic. Anybody who knows him knows that he was either swinging clubs or wrenching on a car, while singing much of the time. Robert spent most of his career at Lockheed as a facilities engineer and was instrumental on many programs – the construction of the Space Shuttle being one his crowning professional achievements.
Robert was an accomplished professional opera singer and music conductor. His vocal range and precision were uncanny, and he was invited to sing for the San Francisco and Hayward symphonies. There was a time when he was planning to sing for the Munich Opera but chose to dedicate his time to his family.
He is survived by his spouse Marlene, his four children Julie, Jon, Jeff, and Jill along with 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, as well as his sisters Shirley and Gail.
