Ronald Morris Steimle, known affectionately as Ron to family and friends, passed away on February 17, 2026, at Intermountain Health St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah, surrounded by family.
Born on December 28, 1942, in Long Beach, California, to devoted parents Allen Benson Steimle and Yvonne Olive (Morrison) Steimle, Ron grew up in Redlands before the family relocated to Newberry Springs in the Mojave Desert when he was around twelve. These early years in varied landscapes shaped his resilient spirit and deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Ron proudly served in the United States Army, where he developed discipline and a strong sense of duty that carried through his life. He attended Brigham Young University, earning his bachelor’s degree. While attending BYU, Ron served with Utah County Search and Rescue, where he honed and applied his strong skills in wilderness navigation and emergency response with great dedication.
In 1969, Ron married Marianne Rae Mackay. Together they brought eight children into the world. They raised their family in Newberry Springs, where they owned and operated a gas station right along the I-15 interstate. Even after relocating the family to Polson, Montana, they continued to own the station, managing it from afar. They later divorced after 25 years of marriage.
While in California, Ron became a certified EMT and belonged to the Volunteer Fire Department in Harvard, CA, contributing selflessly to his community. He also shared his expertise by teaching survival classes at Barstow Community College, inspiring countless students with practical knowledge on preparedness and outdoor safety.
Ron eventually made his home in the beautiful St. George, Utah area. There, in 2010, he found renewed joy when he married Janet Creamer. Their time together was filled with companionship and shared happiness, a cherished chapter in his life.
Ron was a man of deep passions and strong values. A lifelong advocate for preparedness and wilderness survival, he generously shared his knowledge through teaching and example, while believing in hard work and instilling that ethic in his children. A devoted sports enthusiast—especially a lifelong fan of BYU football—Ron also delighted in simple pleasures like playing volleyball and gathering for weekly card games with close friends in St. George. He cherished these friendships and looked forward to every moment of laughing, competing, and connecting with them.
Above all, Ron cherished his role as a grandfather. He never missed an opportunity to tell his grandchildren he loved them or to offer a bit of grandfatherly wisdom and encouragement. Though distance from his children and grandchildren tugged at his heart, he embraced his life in St. George with deep gratitude and warmth.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Yvonne; his older brother, Doug; and his beloved wife, Janet.
He is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Noel and Dave Greenhalgh (Syracuse, UT), Holly and Troy Hill (Poteau, OK), Jeremy and Julie Steimle (Reno, NV), Karalee and Samuel Baird (Idaho Falls, ID), Daniel Steimle (Layton, UT), Jason and Leesa Steimle (Wichita, KS), Kristina and Mike Jorgensen (Knoxville, TN), and Adam and Sherra Steimle (Colorado Springs, CO); 34 grandchildren; and 7 great- grandchildren.
Ron's legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the love he gave freely, and the strength he showed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
His family extends their heartfelt thanks to his cherished friends, whose love, support and concern meant so much. They are also grateful for the dedicated medical team at St. George Regional Medical Center ICU, who cared for him with such compassion during his final days.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle, UT.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jubilee Home Guest Housing at St. George Regional Medical Center. Ron always preferred to help another in need.
