Scott C. Walker, only 54, died way too soon for us December 3, 2023. He was born just before midnight May 14, 1969, in LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, to Ardith W. Walker and Steven C. Walker. He married Melody Warner December 21, 1991, in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his three daughters, Megan (Josh) Thayne, Hayley (Bentley) Rawle, and Kelsey, and his son Mitchell. He was blessed as well with three granddaughters—Hunter, Clementine, and Maude. Scott is older brother to Rebecca (Sam) Clarke of Orem, and Emily (Jeff) Wootton of Pleasant Grove.
Scott Walker was a man of many facets—budding capitalist at age seven who earned $2.15 selling rocks to neighbor kids instead of the $1.25 fulltime-babysitter wages offered for tending his sisters, Hope of America outstanding student in his grade school, avid reader of The Lord of the Rings at ten, the Book of Mormon at twelve, and the Old Testament at thirteen, sometimes dedicated herder of turtles, Siamese fighting fish, hamsters, gerbils, a cockatiel named Woodstock Charlie Walker, and pheasant and quail roaming his outside run, Eagle Scout at fourteen, wide receiver for Timpview High, Assistant to the President of the Munich, Germany, Mission, B.S. and J.D. from BYU. He passed the bar in the ninety-seventh percentile in 1996, and partnered a successful law firm in Provo, Abbott and Walker.
His most heroic accomplishment was rising above addiction to prescription drugs triggered by football injuries. Scott and Melody were profoundly saddened by their divorce in 2008 necessitated by a grueling recovery process, a pilgrimage ultimately rewarded November 7, 2015, by his marriage to Starla Olson. His beloved Starla and their faithful shorky Max were with him at his home in Hurricane when he passed from a sudden heart attack.
But his happiest contribution to lives around him may have been his lifelong effervescent friendliness. Scott was an unusually serendipitous combination of keen intellect, fun-loving disposition, and sheer goodness. He loved the people around him and loved life, and shared that love full-heartedly with those of us blessed to know him. He has been such a bright light among us we doubt he will ever go out for us, nor even dim.
Funeral services will be held at the Sharon Third Ward in Orem (730 East 445 South), 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8. Friends may call at the chapel to visit family from 10:00 to 10:45 before the services. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
