Shanna Lyn Caufield, age 53, of Seaford, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2023.
Born in Ogden, Utah, Shanna has been making best friends everywhere she went…From northern Utah
to upstate New York, and all parts in between, Shanna has been touching lives…perhaps none more
profoundly than that of her devoted husband, Grant. For 22 years, their journey took them on countless
adventures across the country, loving their two beautiful children along the way.
Shanna was a loving wife, devoted mother, and fierce friend. Her love for her family knew no
bounds and the absence of that love leaves a painful reminder of just how special she was; A free spirit
who cherished children and did an immense amount of volunteering to help the underprivileged, the
theatrical arts, and any worthy cause that would take up her every available hour and resources she had
to give.
Her indiscriminate and unrelenting love fostered friendships that would have taken anyone else
more than five lifetimes to accumulate. Those nearest and dearest to Shanna’s heart would have their
lives changed forever. Her collection of friends and adopted family crossed every race, gender, religion,
orientation, special need, general need, choice of music, and political view. If you were her friend, you
were her best friend. It didn’t matter to her. She loved you and would stand against giants to protect
and shelter you from harm. It was her gift.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Wadley and her daughter, Katie Caufield, but is
survived by her husband, Grant Caufield, her son, Macen Caufield, her mother, Kaye Wadley, her
brothers, William Wadley (Gina) and John Wadley (Sara), sisters, Traci Cunningham (Rich) and Kim Rice
(Alan) and 8 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews. She also is survived by all the best
friends, near and far, whom she carried in her heart.
For those that loved her, the world is a little darker and a little colder. There will never be
another like Shanna. We can find solace in the thought of Shanna being reunited with her dad, her Katie
(bird), and all the other people and animals that brought her joy through her life. Shanna was called
home, her light extinguished too early. Her heart loved so strongly, it could not beat as long.
For her families and best friends on the western half of the country, a graveside memorial will
be held on May 20, 2023 at 10:00 at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, Utah where she will be laid to
rest next to her daughter. This is to be a celebration of light and life, so the brighter the better.
For our eastern families and best friends, A celebration of life will be held on June 12, 2023, in
Seaford, Virginia at her “summer home” where family and friends made many years of precious
memories. It was a place of revelry, and it is in that spirit that we will honor a light so bright, darkened
too soon.
