Sherry Ann McEntire

Our Dear Sweet loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, & daughter Sherry Ann McEntire slipped peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father surrounded by loved ones on March 31, 2020 after a long illness.

She was born in Kanab, Utah on August 7, 1953 to Orson and MaryAnn Johnson Swapp, who taught her the gospel and raised her to become an amazing lady.  She was involved in many activities throughout her high school career and was the Valedictorian of her class.  She then went on to Brigham Young University where she excelled in her classes and graduated with honors.  After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in England and Wales, she went on to Utah State University where she earned a Masters Degree in Consumer Education and Family Finance.

She taught College at Rick’s College (Now BYU Idaho) from 1979 until December of 1983 when she resigned to become the wife of Richard McEntire who was still in his Senior year at Utah State University.

Together for 36 years, Richard and Sherry raised a beautiful family of 3 daughters and one Son, and have enjoyed 6 beautiful Grandchildren.

She was very involved in her church, where she served in many callings and influenced many people for good.  She had a strong spirit and always stood up for correct and righteous principles.  Richard remembers her standing up in the middle of movies at theaters and walking out because of foul language, and in other social situations speaking her mind if conversation wasn’t clean.  She was also very involved in her children’s school activities and the PTA program.

Sherry is survived by her husband Richard in St.George, children Kayla (Kellon) Hansen of St.George, Shanna (Brian) Morrill of Norfolk, VA, Melissa McEntire of St.George, and Ricky McEntire of Ephraim, Utah; Mother, MaryAnn Swapp of Kanab, Brother John (Sharon) Swapp of Springville, and Sister Gwen (Dave) Brown of Kanab and several Aunts, Uncles, & cousins.

Preceded in death by her Father Orson Spencer Swapp.

Private family services will be held on Monday April 6, 2020 and interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery in St.George, Utah.

A special thanks to the loving staff at Encompass Health Care & Hospice, A Gentle Touch Health Care for their kindness and special care and the Foothills Ward Relief Society and others who have been so kind and helpful.
