Teresa “Tita” Concepción, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, in St. George, UT.
Tita was born on October 14, 1941, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Martín Concepción and Luisa González. She was the second-oldest of four children, known as the audacious older sister despite having the weakest constitution. As a child, Tita lost most of her hearing ability due to illness, and it was a lifelong struggle. However, this never held her back. She was always ambitious and outgoing, and she frequently shared stories from her youth of many friends and admirers. One such admirer was her husband, Evelio Vidal, with whom she started her family. Unfortunately, Evelio passed away suddenly, and she became widowed at a young age with three children. Yet, she overcame this hardship and earned an associate’s degree to become a medical records technician at a hospital, an occupation she revered long after leaving the field.
Tita cherished her family and devoted her life to them, even uprooting herself from Puerto Rico to move to the mainland United States once her children did. From there, she divided her time between Utah and California, being an amazing grandmother to four grandchildren. She had a knack for crafts and made beautiful blankets and scarves that reflected her warmth.
In the last decade of her life, Tita had settled permanently in St. George. Yet, she did not like to stay in one place too long, often asking when the next trip to Las Vegas was for another adventure. She loved seeing the Strip at night and eating alcapurrias at the local Puerto Rican restaurant.
Tita is survived by her son, Levy-Armand Vidal; daughter, Katty, and husband, José Cartagena; daughter-in-law, Amy Mills; grandchildren, Joseph Cartagena, Jheresa Cartagena, Jadely Cartagena, and Joshua Phillips; brother, Ángel Luis Concepción; and sisters, Amparo Recio and Gloria Concepción. In addition, Tita is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
Tita is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Evelio Vidal; and her daughter, Yadira “Jady” Phillips. We let go of an unforgettable woman, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a genuine soul.
As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, and kindness that were the essence of Tita’s being.
