Donald James "Jim" Reed

December 15, 1937 ~ November 20, 2019 (age 81)


Donald James “Jim” Reed, age 81, passed away November 20, 2019 in St. George, UT.  Jim was born in Great Falls, MT to Sidney and Marie Reed on December 15, 1937.  Moving to Port Orchard, Washington at a young age, Jim always considered himself a native of the Northwest and Washington.  Jim married Carolyn “Cari” Travaille on November 23, 1966 in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Raised on the waters of the Puget Sound, Jim was a lover of the water. He served in the United States Coast Guard for 4 years, was a fire fighter and arson investigator for the city of Seattle, a commercial fisherman and a small business owner during his life.  He was also involved with the Masons where he became the chapter high “monkey monk” aka Grand High Priest of the Ashler Lodge F&AM  Retiring from the fire department in 1980 Jim and his family’s lives revolved around boats and the water for the next decade as they explored the Puget Sound, San Juan’s and Canadian Gulf Islands on the “Doncy J” exploring “God’s Country”.  Jim coached baseball and basketball teams for years, attended his children's sporting events thru the college years and attended all of the grandchildren’s events that he could. He loved his family dearly. Moving to Okanogan, WA in 1992 he dabbled in farming and then moved on to Spokane, WA and finally ending his time in St. George, UT. 

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Marie, his brothers Richard and Sidney as well as his beloved sister Doris and her husband JT Alley.  He is survived by his wife Carolyn Reed presently of St. George, UT, his sons, JC & wife Jennifer Reed presently of Puyallup, WA and Donald Ross Reed presently of St. George, as well as his six grandchildren Mackenzie, Braden, Payton, Brandon, Kasen and Cameron as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Memorial services will be held from 11am to 2pm on Sunday, June 7th, 2020 at the Tacoma Yacht Club in Tacoma, WA.  Please contact Jennifer Reed (jenreed0422@gmail.com) with any questions regarding the memorial.
